2 Corinthians 12:9 [ESV] But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
This weekend I received some news that left me totally brokenhearted and feeling a great sense of loss. My friend and brother in Christ went home to be with the Lord suddenly. Instantly my heart broke for his family. My wife and I dropped to our knees and began to pray God’s grace over his wife, kids, grand kids, family and friends. We prayed God’s grace because we know it is sufficient for us all. No words can describe the deep sadness in my soul. I asked myself, “How will those of us left behind get through this?” The answer, by God’s grace one day at a time, one minute at a time, one second at a time. When others asked me the same question I responded with the same answer. We will get through this tragedy and this life the same way we get through every day of this life by God’s grace. I am reminded of this scripture and I cling to it like a life raft in a stormy sea called life.
Lamentations 3:21-23 [ESV] 21But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope: 22 The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; 23they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.
I pray God’s grace over my friend’s precious family and friends daily. I trust that His mercies are new every morning and that they will be sufficient to get us through the day. I am confident they will get us through this day and every day to follow until we ourselves see Jesus face to face. Life is filled with beauty and tragedy and we face both by God’s grace and with God’s grace. The life we live is by grace through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Tomorrow I get the honor and privilege of speaking at my precious friend’s home going service. At first I asked myself, “How are you gonna do this? How will you be able to stand? How will you be able to speak?” My answer still remains the same, by God’s grace.
